Have you dumped lately?
Did I grab your attention. Good. Read on. Illegal dumping around charity bins and stores is incomprehensible. Charities deserve better. The honest residents of this beautiful city of Canberra deserve better.

Thank you to Katy Gallagher, MLA, Chief Minister of the ACT for listening, and taking steps to resolve the ongoing issue of dumping around charity bins in the ACT - April 2012

Dumping around charity bins: despicable.
_On the afternoon of 27 December 2011, I went to
the Southlands (Mawson) charity bins to donate clothes. The mess I found was astonishing. I had a camera, and took pics. That same afternoon I drove around Canberra in search
of other charity bins and stores, where so-called "charity" items had been illegally dumped. Every picture has been displayed on this website. Old fridges, mattresses, chairs, lounges, broken guitars, a mouldy child car-seat, household kitchen garbage, broken chairs, old TVs, and the list goes on. After 200km, and around 123 photos, I went home and started this website. Each suburb (area) has it's own dedicated Gallery of Disgrace. There are many close up shots, which can be identified. In saying that, it is not my aim to identify individuals, but it is my aim to raise awareness of the consequences to charity, and the penalties to individuals.

Charities in the ACT (and all over Australia) have borne the brunt of tip fees for the disposal of the rubbish that appears around their charity bins for years, although the ACT Government has recently taken measures to help the charities with tip fees, and they have also conducted a "blitz" on illegal dumping around charity bins in Canberra. Well done Katy! The blitz continues!
Dumping is prohibited, and there are strict penalties. The Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) department within the ACT Government provides a very comprehensive list of what is considered to be acceptable and not acceptable goods. You should read it before taking your junk to the local charity bins or store. If you spot a dumper (they usually dump at night), please Dob in a Dumper to 132281, with "specific details of the location, the time of incident, registration number, and a description of vehicle involved".
